Dharamshala, June 3 – A candle-light vigil was carried out by Tibetans in the exile seat of Dharamshala, this evening, condemning the death of Jampa Pelsang, who died shortly after serving a 15-year prison term.

His Holiness inaugurates new Kashag building
DHARAMSHALA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday inaugurated the new Kashag building. He arrived at Gangchen Kyishong, the seat of the Central Tibetan Administration, at 9 a.m. Hundreds of Tibetans, carrying traditional scarves and incense sticks, lined on the road sides to welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Tortured Tibetan women released in Ngaba, man expected to be sentenced
Dharamsala, June 1 – Two Tibetan women arrested on April 22 in the clash between Tibetans and Chinese troops near Kirti monastery have been released after nearly a month in detention, a Tibetan source with contacts in Ngaba said. Choko, 45, of Trinchen Tsang house in Thawa Gongma Township, and Serkyi, 35, daughter of Lokle Trakho of Thawa Gongma Township, were released on May 17. The two had been severely tortured in detention and their heads shaved, the source said, adding that they physical condition is critical.

First session of 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Begins
DHARAMSHALA: The first session of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile opened today, opening a new chapter in the history of Tibetan democracy. In his opening remarks, Mr Penpa Tsering, the speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, said “the opening of a new chapter at this landmark turning point in democracy necessitates the members of the 15th Tibetan Parliament to take greater responsibility than ever before.”

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Urged to Visit Tibet
Geneva: The UN Human Rights Council begun its 17th regular session on 30 May and will continue till 17 June to discuss and address human rights situation around the globe. The UN human rights chief, Ms. Navi Pillay presented an annual report updating her office’s activities and then held general debate.
