Tibetans marched in Zürich to show solidarity with the self immolators

Despite the short notice, about 300 Tibetans gathered in the Swiss city of Zurich at werdmuehleplatz yesterday (Friday, 05 Oct. 2012)evening to show solidarity with the self immolators in Tibet. The rally was organized by the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Leichtenstein (TCSL).

After a welcoming and introductory note from the program announcer, the President of the TCSL, Mr. Gangshongtsang Lobsang explained the call for todays protest as a mark of protest against the continuing repressive and heavy handed policies in Tibet by the Chinese authorities in respond to the various recent self immolations in Tibet. Swiss Green Party representative Mr. Balthasar Glättli , also addressed the crowd and said he supports the rally in solidarity with all those who have immolated themselves for the cause of Tibet.

Later, the crowd marched towards the Chinese consulate. At the consulate the crowd demostrated a peaceful protest along with prayers under the lead of khen rinpoche and monks from the Rikon Monastery. The representatives from Tibet womens association and Tibetan youth association has also given speech. The president, TCSL, Mr. Lobsang read the petition letter to the crowd, which was then dropped into Chinese consulate letter box.The protest concluded with the proud rendition of the Tibetan National Anthem led by the Folklore group of TCSL and word of thanks from the President.
