TCSL Appeals UN to Send fact-finding Mission to Tibet

On the 30th May 2011 the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein held a demonstration in front of the U.N Office in Geneva appealing the United Nations to send an independent fact finding mission with full unhindered access to Tibet as soon as possible. The president of the Tibetan Community declared that, starting May 30, 2011, Tibetans will stage one action every month for the next 2 years in front of Palais Wilson, appealing the UN Human Rights Council and UN Commissioner to send an independent fact finding mission with full unhindered access to Tibet.

Starting at 11.30, a crowd of 350 Tibetans from various parts of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, joined by western supporters, gathered in front of Palais Wilson, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights [ OHCGR ]. The procession started with the Tibetan National Anthem led by the Cultural and Folklore Society of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein followed by a prayer session headed by monks from the monastery of Rikon. The procession than marched towards towards Palais des Nations, the Office of United Nations at Geneva, chanting slogans of appeal to UN. Well-known Swiss singer Nubya, extended her solidarity with her performance in dedication to the cause. Nelung Tsering Topden and performers from folklore society also performed. The procession was addressed by Mrs Ann Mahrer, former Chairperson of the Geneva Parliament, member of Parliament and Green Party Geneva, Mr. Rene Longet, President of the Socialist Party , Geneva, and Tenzin Samphel from Tibet Bureau. Led by Nubya, the crowd sang the famous anthem of the US civil rights movement, "We Shall Overcome" followed by a prayer session of Dentsik Monlam led by monks from the monastery of Rikon. The procession ended at 16.00 with words of thanks from  Lobsang Shitsetsang, Vice President of The Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Photos..
