Another monk self-immolates in eastern Tibet

Dharamshala, October 25: A report from Tibet confirmed here by Tibetan government-in-exile said a monk of Karze monastery in Karze in eastern Tibet has set himself on fire this morning.

“Dawa Tsering, a young Tibetan monk, self-immolated at 9:30 am during a ritual dance event in Karze,” Tibetan government-in-exile reported.

“He was taken to a hospital, but his condition and whereabouts remain unknown,” it said.

An independent source here said the monk has called for “return of Dalai Lama,” and “greater freedom for Tibet and right to equality” as he set himself afire.

“The flame on the monk is so fiery and he fell down as other monks present at the time attempted to extinguish the fire,” Beri Jigme Wangyal, a former member of Tibetan Parliament, said citing witnesses.

The full details of this latest act of self-immolation are not yet available. The latest self-immolation protest is the tenth such reported case from Tibet in the last seven months.
