Sikyong Penpa Tsering Meets Tibet Supporters in Zurich
Zurich: 5th November 2021: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration arrived in Zurich on 5th November for a two-day program. On the first day of the visit, he met dignitaries, spoke to the media and participated in a discussion on Tibet during the visit.
In the morning, Sikyong met Mr. Mario Fehr, member of the Government Council of Zurich and apprised him on the grim political and human rights situation prevailing inside Tibet under Chinese occupation. Following the meeting, Sikyong met with members of Swiss-Tibetan friendship society from German speaking areas of Switzerland. The interaction with the Tibet supporters was attended by Thomas Buchli, President of the Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Society, Lobsang Gangshontsang, honorary President of Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Society, and several Tibetans who were among the first Tibetans in exile to arrive in Switzerland. During the meeting, Sikyong urged the Tibet supporters to amplify the just cause of Tibet and the Tibetan people among the Swiss general public.
Sikyong also spoke to Vincenzo Capodici, a journalist from Tages Anzeiger, a leading Swiss-German daily newspaper published from Zurich.
On the same day, Sikyong visited Rikon Choekor monastery (Tibet Institute, Rikon). He was welcomed at the monastery by Ven Thubten Lekmen, abbot of the monastery; Karma Dolma Lobsang, President of Rikon monastery’s management committee; Mr. Philip, Administrator of the monastery, along with other lay and monastic members of the monastery.
In the afternoon, Sikyong participated in a Panel discussion titled ‘Tibet was never a part of China; One China policy should be Abandoned’at Volkhaus, Zürich. He was accompanied at the discussion by Dr Micheal van Walt van Praag,Professor of international law,mediator und longstanding legal advisor to the Tibetan government in exile, Claudio Friedli, National Councilor, SP /member of Swiss Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, who will comment on Switzerland`s political strategy vis-à-vis the Tibetans and also on Switzerland`s China strategy, Rolf Bächi, Author and publisher Prong Press: Classification and assessment of the problems PR China and Tibet, Taiwan, Hongkong, Belt and Road Initiative, and Vijay Kranti, Indian Journalist and Photographer; Classifying and assessing the situation in the PRC and the extraterritorial consequences. The discussion was moderated by Claudia Sedioli Maritz, communications consultant and lecturer at ZHAW.
On 6th November 2021 Sikyong will attend Interactive Session with Europe Tibetan Youth Association and meet Swiss Tibetan Woman Association.
In the afternoon on the very day, Sikyong will address the Public and will launch the 16th Kashag’s flagship program Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG) at Uster, Zürich.
